I know how you feel. I wrecked my car on an icy bridge two days before Christmas. Didn't get it back for two months. I grieved for my own car, even though they gave me a Caddie for a loaner. No one seemed to understand that I wanted "my" car.

Thanks Rebekah, I don't think I've ever entered anything national. I've won several contests statewide, but the nation-wide contests always seemed too big for me. One thing I know from experience, trying to get published takes a lot of hard work. Some people think you just submit a bunch of places and someone will pick it up. You have to study the markets and send to the right places, but I really believe it all comes down to the right person seeing it at the right time. That is if you've got something good in the first place -- good writing, good plot, good characters, all that (speaking of fiction that is.) I'll post one of my short stories sometime and you can tell me what you think. I have a few things I'm really proud of. Nice to hear from you again.

I wrote an editorial in my newspaper a couple of weeks ago about the two funeral homes in our county and how great the people are who work there. My cousin, just 58) died suddenly in Feb. then my mother died in July, so we've had a lot of funeral experience this year. The funeral directors were so kind and caring, it made it all so much easier to get through. I just couldn't praise them enough. They always go above and beyond their duty. Please excuse all my errors. I do this all day, but I'm used to having spell check. Spoiled to it, I guess.

Hi, Rebekah! :)
My boss is an embalmer and funeral director as well, so I spend a lot of time around the funeral homes, eventhough I work at city hall... He's also our town's mayor, too. :)
I can relate to what you said about appreciate life and what God gives us.
Great to have you aboard Way Kewl Friends!

Being able to share thoughts and ideas with each other is one of our greatest gifts. Being a funeral director/embalmer makes me appreciate life and the abundant creations God gives us. I firmly believe in the old adage about telling people good things while they can hear them. I love learning new ways to appreciate people. All of you are doing it, even in small (and meaningful) ways, whether you realize it or not. So tell me what you're doing and how you're making people feel good so I can learn some more!

A New Kind of Grief

A few weeks ago, I was told by my trusted mechanic that my car was sick. So sick, in fact, that I needed to look for a new one, unless I was prepared to part with a couple thousand dollars.

But I love this car! How can I let her go and find a new one? This car has been with me for over 7 years! Do you know how much of life this car has been through with me? Tons! This car has been with me through three moves, all to different states, and through many of life's struggles, disappointments, and pa… Continue

art and life

This week, I met with a very successful businessman to talk about some ideas. I was supposed to meet him at his home but when I arrived, his wife said he had forgotten and had taken their son for breakfast a block away. She graciously suggested that I just walk down and join them. We had a great talk and afterward we walked back to their home. He asked me in because he wanted to give me something. (a copy of a book he'd written) I knew from some research I had done, that he was also an artist an… Continue
